Gare di Equitazione: Quando il Gioco (Costoso) non Vale la Candela

Horse Racing: When the (Expensive) Game Isn't Worth the Candle

If you are a horse riding enthusiast, you know that participating in competitions is not only a matter of passion, but also of your wallet. Between registrations, transportation and various expenses, the bill can quickly mount up. And in the end, what do you get in return? Often, prizes that do not even cover the expenses. Let's talk about it together!

How Much Does It Cost to Enter a Race?
Imagine preparing for a three-day competition: between entry fees, horse transportation, accommodation and meals, you could easily spend between 500 and 700 euros. If you opt for a one-day competition close to home, the cost could be around 200 euros . And that's without taking into account any unforeseen events or extra expenses. Scuderia Cavalcare

And the Awards?
Now, after all this investment, you would expect a substantial prize if you win, right? Unfortunately, this is not always the case. In many competitions, especially in the smaller categories, the prize money is quite modest. For example, some categories may not provide prize money at all, leaving the winners with a handshake and a rosette . FISE

The Horsemanship Paradox
So, we are faced with a paradoxical situation: you spend a considerable amount of money to participate, you face stress and fatigue, and in the end, even if you win, the prize may not even cover the expenses incurred. Doesn't seem very fair, does it?

Why It's Important to Review Your Awards
A more generous reward system would not only adequately recognize the efforts of the riders, but could also incentivize more participation in the races. It would also help cover expenses and make the entire experience more rewarding.

Horse riding is a passion that requires dedication, time and, yes, a fair bit of money. It would be right for the prizes to reflect the commitment and investment of the participants. Perhaps it is time to review the system and give the riders the recognition they deserve.
